In the Netherlands Rembrandt lived in, it was usual to invite some audience to the Anatomy lessons. People felt curious towards how the human body actually was. In XVII century, there were no radiographies or ecographies or scanners. The only way to widen your knowledge was to dissect a corpse and learn through the explanations of a surgeon.
